I think they're just frustrated because a lot of people have pointed out opening with that kind of character with people you don't know, when pointing out that, "Hey, it's likely they're wondering if they have an actual bigot in their midst when they ask why you'd want to play that" earns a "I'm the only one who knows how to RP" kinda thing. They're being dense, if not on purpose then to the point that they shouldn't be RPing at all.
