A friend of mine lost her mom last year. Before she died, the mom was in hospice for a month, voraciously reading books provided by my friend and her siblings. My friend's heart would sink whenever she noticed her mom sticking with a book she (the mom) felt was so-so.

Good reminder to me that life is too short to read books you don't love.

But perhaps the mom got something, no matter what, out of those books? I'm choosing to believe that, anyway. Books are important, after all, and if it gave her an illusion of normality..?
