That is such a cozy spot to read, but I wish that loveseat/chair thing had only one large cushion instead of two.

But yes! You don't have to read a book if you don't want to! I have several different TBR piles and some have been sitting for years. I'm not ready to throw them out, but I haven't been in the mood to read them yet so oh well! Good for you - it's a very freeing epiphany.

Yeah this was me last year. I had PILES of books that had been sitting since 2014 in my room and I had to do a major clear out to fix the heating. So I ended up getting rid of over half I knew I wasn't going to read any time soon or no longer had an interest in it.

I've actually been going to the library a lot more since then, which has motivated me to actually read them before I could no longer renew them when I it the limit.

I’m generally incapable of getting rid of unread books, but when I moved a couple years ago I got rid of almost all of them.

It's weirdly revelatory when you realize that just because you once decided you should read/watch/do something in your leisure time, you are not forever tied to that decision - you can change your mind. And repeatedly putting a particular something off is maybe a sign that it isn't truly something that fits your preferences, at least right now.

A friend of mine lost her mom last year. Before she died, the mom was in hospice for a month, voraciously reading books provided by my friend and her siblings. My friend's heart would sink whenever she noticed her mom sticking with a book she (the mom) felt was so-so.

Good reminder to me that life is too short to read books you don't love.

I've struggled with this a lot! I use my library card to read ebooks, but it took me a while to settle with the idea that I can check out a book, start it, decide it's not for me (either at that moment or that it'll never be for me) and return it without hurting anyone. It's like once I got that book I *had* to read it immediately, I just had to!

I came to this realization about fan fiction too! But not sure how to move it from the TBR pile to it looks okay but lost interest in reading?

This is so true... I chucked out about ten boxes of books last week. They went to a local book sale. No longer my problem.

If I were a cat I would spend my entire life on that sofa.

In fairness, I remember worrying a lot about the end of the world during the 80s. It was a fairly grim time. And this song is ominous as hell so your take seems perfectly valid. (I was a teenager when the song came out and it creeped me out, too. It's my favourite of their songs.)
