People write and read fucked up shit to work through fucked up shit.

Hell, a lot of the time it doesn't even have anything to do with that. Sometimes it's just "I find this thing hot IN FICTION" with the knowledge that said thing isn't okay in reality, but fiction isn't reality so it's perfectly fine to find it hot and enjoy it there.
