Re: Based on 1
Ah, that could be part of it, the fic in question was for a second-person video game fandom. There's no shift in the original perspective.
And I agree that most people in fandom aren't skilled writers (yet) because most of them are beginners, but there are also many 30+ year olds who've been writing for decades. There's not one but several traditionally published authors in my current fandoms alone. Every fandom I've ever been in (since the 90s) has at least a few authors who incredibly skilled, and of those some will always want to play with perspective, so I have a hard time believing one would never run into a good first/second person fic in 22 years unless one is actively avoiding them.
It's fine to just have been driven away by bad experiences, though.

(Anonymous) 2024-02-03 08:08 pm (UTC)(link)As someone whose been in fandom since the early 2000s, I'd say it's plausible someone might not have come across a good 1st or 2nd person fic, depending on your reading habits.
I typically read shippy fic for canons that are written from the 3rd perspective, and once those filters are applied in AO3 I don't think I've ever come across a 2nd perspective fic other than reader fic (which I don't read).
I don't think I've ever seen a 1st person fic outside of (maybe) my days as a fandom baby on ff.net. (Epistolary, yes, love that, but not true 1st person).
So yeah, I would say I can't seen a good one of either mostly because I've seen so few of either.
Thay said, I personally have nothing against either perspective and quite enjoy it outside of fandom.
