Oh yes! This! I had a lot of problems with this show and always hated when it came on. I always felt like she and her mother were far more sinister than the laugh track wanted me to know.

It’s worth noting that young me did not understand how there were two Darrens and I was especially conflicted about feeling sorry for JR Ewing (this was right about the time headlines around the world were asking who shot him). …I wasn’t very bright LOL

most of me agrees that she should have at least told him before they announced their engagement to anyone so everyone has a clean way to back out that has the fewest social consequences. the petty part of me is like if Darrin has no thoughts about why he didn't meet any of Samantha's family at all ever in the 60s, and no one came to their wedding, that's wild and he deserved the surprise.

i get that the writers wanted to have some fun with gender and power dynamics but this is the problem with wanting a conventional partner while being a person few if any conventional partners can handle because of the conventional part.
