Sorry it was so painful for you.

(Anonymous) 2024-02-04 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
It is pretty painful in a lot of ways, but certain episodes still hold up. Not the majority, but there is still fun to be had there.

(Anonymous) 2024-02-04 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Never watched the series, but that sounds so disappointing, revisiting something you loved and realizing it doesn't hold up.

(Anonymous) 2024-02-04 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Everyone agrees the first season of Buffy is bad! Even Buffy fans! This doesn't prove anything about how well it holds up. It's like if you watched 4 random episodes of TNG S1 and were like "TNG sucks". It's not a representative sample.

This. the beginning of the show isn't great, that was established fannish canon back when it was still airing.

(Anonymous) 2024-02-04 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I did a S1-S5 rewatch recently and a lot of S1 stuff was pretty shaky and needed the nostalgia goggles. But it did get very good.

(Anonymous) 2024-02-04 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
From when I rewatched a year or two ago, seasons 2 and 3 are rock solid. After that it gets way more shaky but there's still a ton of interesting cool stuff.

(Anonymous) 2024-02-04 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
AYRT Yeah, I think S3 was the best overall.

OP

(Anonymous) 2024-02-05 05:10 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe I should try to watch s2/3 sometime in the future, heh, just to change my mind about it. But on the other hand I am not sure I want to touch anything Whedon right now

S02E03 is a much better starting point for the show. If you do get into it you can always go back and watch the earlier episodes.

Season one can be pretty cheesy, but I still like the series overall. It's good fun.

This. It was never GREAT, but it was fun.

Came here to say similar to others in that getting past season 1 seems like most of the battle (I did a re-watch during the first lockdown in my country.) Then it ends up on shaky ground again for the last couple of seasons.

(Anonymous) 2024-02-05 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
I can't watch it anymore, but I think a lot of that is down to bad associations in my head now (Whedon, Brendon, and even Boreanaz, a little). And, to be honest, I stopped watching the original run part way through the sixth season because I didn't really like where the show had gone. If I did rewatch it, I don't know if the quips and tropes (some of which it originated) would be cringey or entertaining.

(Anonymous) 2024-02-05 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
Heh. Obviously you didn’t remember much about the show because everyone knows to start with season 2. You can maybe go back and watch the last couple episodes of season one but personally I find that to be more trouble than it’s worth.

I absolutely love this show but I only ever watch seasons 2-4. I hated so much about s4 but I LOVED everyone hanging out at Giles’ place so I watch it for that, plus Hush is one of the best episodes of any show ever.

You rewatched at best 2.8% (4 episodes of a 144-episode show) of Buffy; and if we ignore the comics. I'm not sure it's enough to make an informed judgment about it or why other people might think it's good. Like in many long-running TV shows, there are some bad episodes. Also, one of its appeals is character development, which you're not going to be able to see with so few episodes. I mean, if it's not for you, it's not for you, but going from there to making assumptions about other people's reasons for liking it is, IMO, presumptuous.

I don't know how to phrase it better but it's not about being presumptuous, it's just emotional reaction. I wouldn't say that this show is shit to a fan in a conversation, that is why it's ~a secret~

Emotional reactions can be presumptuous. It's not an either/or thing.

..... dude....

Lol. Omg. You are not helping if your goal is to change my mind about show and it's fans. That was bad

I'm baffled by your different answers here. You seem to answer to someone else at one point? Your answers read as if I had answered your first answer aggressively at one point and you were responding to those answers. Like I've said, I'm confused.

However, I think my choice of the word "presumptuous" in my initial comment was misleading or wasn't the right one to express what I wanted to convey. I apologize for that because I don't think you're presumptuous. Rush in your conclusions, maybe? I just don't think you have enough data to make an informed decision about the quality of the show (because you say "it was shit" instead of "I hated it") or to doubt that other people would like it for valid reasons. Again, it's not for everyone and it's far from perfect, so your disliking of it is not an issue. I would have had the same reasoning and issues if you were talking about a show I didn't like.

The part I found kinda grating when reading your secret the first time was the "I just can't believe anyone who says that they like it still". I'm not sure what you meant by that. Do you think they're lying somehow? Why?

(Anonymous) 2024-02-05 02:53 am (UTC)(link)
The movie is better anyway.

Ridiculous
