That's so weird to me, like... 2D has had many styles, and I enjoyed older cartoons when I was a kid. But I only really know one kid and he does like 2D animation, my friend circle is mostly child-free and my cousins with kids all live far away.

Yeah it’s been a thing for a while. I think I first learned about it from FS actually. I didn’t believe it at first and assumed it was one person exaggerating but apparently it’s been a real thing for over ten years. Disney swore off 2D animation 15 years ago; they had one last 2D in production and that was it. Animators looking for work that isn’t 3D are limited to mobile games.

Kids who’ve been raised on 3D think 2D looks wrong. That’s really it. Kids who’ve had similar exposure to both don’t seem to have that issue. But, at the same time, cheap 3D is where it’s at these days so they’re not getting exposure to both.
