Kinda, but that was definitely the general consensus for what "strong women" characters should look like in media from that time period. Whedon's popularity reinforced that in geek pop culture, certainly

I mean in the case of these two men they seem to have backed that with evidence, but this makes it sound like you assume it's because of a fetish any time you see a tough assertive woman written by a man.

Maybe it's the fact I love Missy (possibly my second favourite Master after the original) but unpleasantly aggressive sorta works for her at least.

Yeah, they think the words are in order of importance - STRONG Female character - and not two modifiers of the word character - a person whose character is very strong (as in prominent) who is also female.

I think there is some truth to this. But I'd also argue River, Amy, Clara, Bill, and Missy are all very different characters. Also, I happen to personally love most of his female characters a lot.

well it would make sense that river and amy have similar personalities. but yes, i agree with anon that it was the fashion at the time.


though i will say what he did to irene adler was only one of his many sherlock bbc sins.
