That wasn't really surprising to me in First Contact given the borg are very personal for him.

except in the show where he acted exactly like a BAMF starship captain and didn't let it get in the way of duty and he went on with his life after having ONE (1) cry sesh during leave. lol

Turns out that repressing trauma and just having one crying sesh ain't that great a way of processing. And need I remind you, his counsellor is Deanna "the cow goes moo" Troi; and she is a better pilot than a counselor.


Also, taking into account Starship Mine, Captain's Holiday, and Tapestry, those sort of antics are congruent with Picard's personality. He was always into that sort of stuff as a younger man, and, while he might put on a show of being older and wiser, that is still a part of him. It isn't that out of character.
