What media do you think is either underrated or overrated by the average audience or reviewers?

I wish "Hell No" by Judy Torres had gotten way more airplay than it did back in the day. I understand why this didn't happen, but I still think it's wildly underrated.

Underrated: old Resident Evil/Biohazard games with the janky tank controls
Overrated: new titles, especially RE7 and Village.

I get it, some of y'all like your kink material, but they just don't have that charm anymore.

I just can't do the tank controls. ;_; I used to be able to but I tried replaying some old RE games and couldn't do it.

I bet I probably wouldn't be able to myself now lol

However, I will never stop watching LPs to relive those glory days of "what's with that guy, WHAY'D HE BITE ME" and "you were almost a Jill SANDWICH!"

Jujutsu Kaisen is overrated.

Monster (2004) is underrated. So is Dorohedoro.

As someone who likes Jujutsu Kaisen, I agree. The fights are good (sometimes), but it’s not the most amazing shonen ever created.

Imo the hype for jjk is down to how awful a lot of the recent shounen hits have been. Makes it look better in comparison.

So I'm not the only one who thinks that. The last shounen manga that got me hyped was Boku no Hero Academia and it's been like 5+ years since that. (I still read and like it, but the peak IMHO was around 2018-2020)
even Chainsaw Man had me .____. MEH

For some reason I remembered how I love it this month and having emotions. Was thinking about submitting a secret ahahaha

Jujutsu Kaisen is overrated and just really crap because the creator is the one who actually hates the series the most and it shows. So that makes it an all around unpleasant read.

Monster and Dorohedoro are two my favourite manga of all time, but I don't think they are "underrated".
Monster is overall recognized as one of the best stories in a manga/anime EVER and it's almost universally loved.

Dorohedoro was underrated until the Netflix anime adaptation. I'd know... I've been a fan since 2008 when there were almost no scanlations online and there was no fandom even in Japan. Nowadays it's absolutely NOT underrated. A lot of people know it and are still making fanart about it. The problem is that the manga has finished its course, so there is no active speculations chapter by chapter like there was a few years back.
It's regarded as one of the best horror manga ever (FINALLY!), but it's not a manga for everyone so it can't be as famous as JJK or BNHA. It's not a shounen manga.

Now, CESARE by Fuyumi Soryo, another one of my favourite manga, is underrated. Nobody knows about it, especially in English speaking circles. Such a shame.

Between Two Fires by Christopher Buehlman is overrated. Those Across the River by Christopher Buehlman is underrated.

Laird Barron is overrated. Brian Evenson and Samanta Schweblin are underrated.

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend is underrated, probably because of the name.

YEP. One of my favourite TV shows ever, but I have to admit that I started watching it just because it was on Netflix and the name had me curious. I expected it to be very misogynistic and to get angry at it and OH BOY I was very wrong.
It doesn't help it's a "musical". I love musicals, but they usually don't perform that well with the average audience.

Very overrated: Days of Heaven is considered a classic. It may be the most boring movie I've ever seen.
Underrated: Phantom of the Paradise. I think it deserves to have a participation cult like Rocky Horror. far too few people have even seen it.

Saltburn is the most recent thing where I feel it's way overrated.

I agree with a lot of the people who didn't like the film and found it to be a shallow film that sat on the "shocking" scenes to carry the film.

But most of all, I'm getting so tired of the bumbling fool interpretation of rich people.

I was curious about Saltburn and planned to watch it, then luckily saw spoilers and lost all interest. If I gave up 2+ hours for THAT ending, I'd be PISSED.

I'm also super tired of random grossout scenes being shoehorned in to make it ~edgy~ because without them nobody would talk about the movie because it's otherwise so bland and formulaic.

Most hyped novels, especially if they're hyped because of booktock. It's basically a matter of peer pressure at this point, you just HAVE to think it's amazing because everyone else says it is even though it's actually pretty bland and not well written at all. Add a few trendy buzztopics and you additionally can't say you didn't like it because the you're "insert bigoted opinion here" and clearly hate "pick minority".
