The bar is so goddamned low. And then men complain it's a tripping hazard.

(Anonymous) 2024-02-06 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Preach. And a lot of women don't realize how low it is, either. That's how internalized this bullshit is.

(Anonymous) 2024-02-07 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
Those dumb women, not knowing how squishy and easily washed their brains are. Good thing you're one of the smart ones. You're a credit to your gender, you will surely get picked.

(Anonymous) 2024-02-07 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
Nayrt but how weird is it that you think you can pretend that internalized misogyny isn't real? Lol.

(Anonymous) 2024-02-07 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
There is nothing "pick me" about remarking that double standards based on gender happens, and that even a lot of women aren't aware of it, never mind men.

(Anonymous) 2024-02-07 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
??? We all have internalized misogyny. Even you, asshole!anon.

This is how I feel when men get adoring praise for doing basic stuff that women do all the time and aren't given praise for.

(Anonymous) 2024-02-06 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Also, frankly, most of the time the men actually look equally old. It's just more acceptable for them to age.

(Anonymous) 2024-02-07 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, the people in this picture are the same level of attractiveness, really...

(Anonymous) 2024-02-07 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
I mean, Pierce is 70 and Keely is 60, I think they look great for their ages tbh.

(Anonymous) 2024-02-07 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
Right, it's just that it often gets presented like "This sexy man stays with his OLD WIFE!" But really it's "Two equally good-looking-for-their-age old folks are together," haha.

(Anonymous) 2024-02-07 03:41 am (UTC)(link)
She's 60? Holy shit she looks fantastic for 60! I mean gorgeous anyway but I was thinking mid 40s like me.

(Anonymous) 2024-02-07 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
A lot of people like to pretend that no one is or gets ugly, and that physical attractiveness isn't an ingredient in romance. It's easier than learning to accept the reality.

(Anonymous) 2024-02-07 01:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I think one of the biggest issues, ironically, is that the work a lot of women get done makes them actually look older than they are because a LOT of these procedures don't exactly age well or make you look super artificial.

(Anonymous) 2024-02-07 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
These people are basically the same level of attractiveness. It's just that the average couple in media is like, an unreasonably beautiful woman and some schlub.

(Anonymous) 2024-02-07 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
I know what you mean, but then I always kinda think if your idea of the best person to be with is the person you're using to impress other people rather than the person whose company you enjoy you're always going to be unhappy in the long run, so it's sort of a self-punishing attitude.

B!S is BS

(Anonymous) 2024-02-07 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
Deb is still gorgeous and I will fight anyone who says otherwise! I think people forget she isn’t just older, she’s actually elderly. Plus she has had health struggles for years and still looks stunning <3

I once had the good fortune to meet her in person (after Jindabyne was released) and she is indeed stunning. Intense charisma, too. Like, I thought it was a cliche when everyone in the room turns to watch one person, but that's what happened.

(Anonymous) 2024-02-07 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
Honestly, in a midwestern grocery store, or at a wedding in Queens, she'd have guys all over her. Just like when Pam Anderson was "brave" enough to go without makeup at an event. Ordinary guys in normal American towns would still be like "Who.is.that.Goddess."

It's LA that makes things so awful.

(Anonymous) 2024-02-07 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
I've seen people on the internet basically say that over this exact picture.

(Anonymous) 2024-02-07 03:46 am (UTC)(link)
I admit I don't recognize the couple in the photo and I totally get what OP is saying, but also I just want to say that lady is a fucking fox. Oh my god. Oh my god. Wow.

(Anonymous) 2024-02-07 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
She looks like a million bucks! And where can I get that dress?

(Anonymous) 2024-02-07 07:30 am (UTC)(link)
I am torn about this. I do agree that treating celebrity men like their altruistic gods for being with women their own age and/or who don't look like they're (trying to look like) a hit 20 year old.

But on the other hand, these type of ridiculous news stories publicise normal relationships like this, and publicity is step one to normalisation.

Plus, knowing that men who have the fame and wealth to attract young hotties love, are attracted to and choose to stay with their wives who no longer look like hot 20 year olds was actually nice to know as an insecure teen.

Celebrity gossip is full of fluff stories about any random thing a celebrity does - so maybe the reporting on the relationships isn't the issue, but rather the framing.

(Anonymous) 2024-02-07 05:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd rather see this than the opposite (Why is this RICH MAN with a woman older than 30?!?!) and since there's money in printing celebrity "news" there has to be something.

Also. Aw! Romance isn't dead! Good on her sticking with him! And after Black Adam and everything! (JK, I enjoyed him in that movie an embarrassing amount.)
