I have only blocked one user on there, and I genuinely can't remember why. I think it was just an extreme case of YKINMK and not them actually being mean, though (I usually block people I see being cruel to other users on Twitter or Tumblr even if I'm not involved in the drama. Not gonna give you the chance to even look in the windows of my house, bitch).

The only time I ised the Mute feature was when I was in a fandom and one oerson would update several (short, crappy) fic a day, sometimes taking up the whole page. Fuck that nonsense.

I'm looking on there and I didn't know that there was a difference between blocking and muting on AO3.
Would rather block specific fanfics instead - mainly those ones with a thousand fandoms and barely anything beyond a sentence of a story to tell for each one. The current fandom I'm in has crossovers with connected fandoms so I can't even use the exclude crossovers function and there's about 7+ of those multifandom things that keep updating whenever I check the fandoms DX

I love muting on AO3. I do it for bad writing, putting multiple fandoms or pairings in things like kinktober or drabble sagas, anything that feels AI, and I do it for giant walls of stupid pointless tags. YOU DO NOT NEED TO TAG EVERY CHARACTER MENTIONED OR REFERENCED OR EVERY & WHEN CHARACTERS INTERACT!

Useful tags - yes.
Clever tags - yes.

I've yet to mute authors, but I'm going to start if this trend of putting fake tags on fic to get "exposure" or whatever ramps up. If you tag the fic with fisting, it better have some goddamned fisting, Heather, or you're getting blocked.

coming from tumblr, I've always blocked without remorse. the only thing I wish the mute button on ao3 did was stop telling me that I have people muted and it could ruin my experience. I blocked those mfs for a reason.
