A lot of people in fandom are also pretty vulnerable. That's part of why they're in fandom. You don't have the sort of obligation to them that you do to the people at your job, but if you can understand why it's crucial to the care of your charges not to be an asshole to them, then surely you can understand the damage you're potentially doing to others by choosing to vent in this way.

There are healthier ways to handle the emotionally taxing nature of your job than using others as unwitting punching bags.

There's a pretty wide range of options between the extremes of, "always repress your emotions" and, "deal with your emotions by treating others poorly."
