damn, that meme is so old and I still see it around, lmao.

I get you, OP. But saying you hate "all anime" kind of rubs me in the wrong way.
The medium is so vast and different. I doubt you know more that an handful of the most famous titles. It's like with any other media: the most recommended stuff is almost always on the mediocre side.
Maybe say you hate "anime fandom" next time. That's very understandable and reasonable.

Damn, sorry if I offended you. I really didn't want to.
I sympathize with you and I don't watch anime anymore so this is not my cause. But Japanese animation is not all the same and the anime fandom is obnoxious about mostly shounen shows, which are shows aimed at teenage boys that, while entertaining, are very mediocre for the most part. There are some great anime movies and show around. You probably were never exposed to them.

this. my grandparents are in their 80s and there's plenty of anime that i've shown them that they've enjoyed. anime is as varied a genre as is western movies, so saying that you hate all anime comes across as being more than a little xenophobic for good reason.

Because it's like saying you hate all movies. Or all podcasts. Or all radio plays. Or all LP albums. Like, I guarantee there's something out there you do like. It's not like a genre, where you have to have certain elements and maybe you hate one of the elements (country music for me, I hate the twang - kinda necessary for country music). It's a medium, and someone somewhere has made something in the medium that you'd probably like.

Anyway, the whole point of my comment was that it's a bad analogy, because anime is a medium, not a genre. To use your analogy, it's like saying you hate fruit because people keep shoving tomatoes at you.

Also it's not any media. It's specifically Japanese animation that is maybe diverse but still has it's tropes and styles. It's more like saying that you hate all Roman sculpture. Togas don't do it for me

And I was just pointing out that it's a bad analogy. Westerns are a genre, anime is a medium. Anime only has tropes and styles in so much as the culture has tropes and styles. Westerns must have certain elements in order to be in the genre, regardless of the medium. They're not comparable.
