Other than shitty songs, what did Toby Keith do that was so awful?

Re: Stephen Colbert

(Anonymous) 2024-02-13 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
DA I have the same question. His 9/11 song is vomit inducing but other than that I’ve never been able to turn up anything bad anbout about him. Everything I could find supported the argument that he was a genuine patriot, not the GOP version of a patriot.

Re: Stephen Colbert

(Anonymous) 2024-02-13 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
He just in general sounds like an ass. One thing I saw was after the Dixie Chicks said his dumb 9/11 song was dumb, "Keith responded by displaying a backdrop at his concerts showing a doctored photo of Maines with Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein." Classy guy.

Re: Stephen Colbert

(Anonymous) 2024-02-13 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
He was a general maga type racist misogynist with a microphone

Re: Stephen Colbert

(Anonymous) 2024-02-13 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
Idk I just looked him up and didn't see any of that. Seems believable but do you have any links?

Re: Stephen Colbert

Here you go! I also pulled some choice quotes:

At the end of the day, Keith’s political persuasion mostly depended on whoever was paying the bills, like so many performers: In 2017, he would become one of the first Western musicians to publicly perform in Saudi Arabia, at a gender-segregated concert in Riyadh.
https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-features/toby-keith-politics-republican-1234962575/
- this article talks about how he was a democrat from Oklahoma, and I must say that as someone from a democratic family in Oklahoma, it doesn't mean shit. Democrats in OK were already republican light back in the 80s and they've only gone more to the right.

He also dismissed one of Trump's most controversial moments, the infamous "grab 'em by the p****" comment, recorded while speaking to then Access Hollywood host Billy Bush in 2005, saying "Guys talk like that everywhere."
https://www.newsweek.com/was-toby-keith-donald-trump-supporter-what-we-know-1867332
- really? Which guys you hanging out with?

In December 2002, Keith told CMT.com, "By you asking me my opinion on what I think of what she said about me, that's like asking Barry Bonds what he thought about what a softball player said about his swing. You don't do that. She's not a songwriter, so we can't discuss the mechanics of the song. Why don't you just go down on Second Avenue and pick one of those homeless guys and ask him what he thinks about it? To me it's the same."
https://www.cmt.com/news/n6w3f2/keith-embarrassed-by-role-in-chicks-feud
- this article headline says he's embarrassed by his feud with The Chicks, but he goes on to compare of one of The Chicks' opinion of a very violent song of his to a complete neophyte. As if she's not a musical artist herself...

Thanks!

Re: Stephen Colbert

(Anonymous) 2024-02-13 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
…who supported Obama for president.

I’ll be honest, I assumed the exact thing you just said and was genuinely shocked to learn how wrong I was.

Re: Stephen Colbert

(Anonymous) 2024-02-13 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
Have you not seen Get Out? Racists can and do absolutely have "good ones" that they like.

Re: Stephen Colbert

(Anonymous) 2024-02-13 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
Lmao I was literally going to say "so did the main characters in Get Out". It doesn't mean anything.

Re: Stephen Colbert

(Anonymous) 2024-02-13 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
I have no idea what Get Out is and always think it’s so weird on FS how everyone assumes everyone has seen the same media. Especially when they’re condescending assholes about it. I was simply sharing just one example.

I didn’t turn up any of the things you posted above so thank you for sharing!

Re: Stephen Colbert

(Anonymous) 2024-02-13 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
nayrt but in Get Out, several of the white girlfriend's family members pretended they were cool with black people, using the fact they voted for Obama as evidence. Obviously I'll stop there for spoiler reasons.

Re: Stephen Colbert

(Anonymous) 2024-02-13 05:54 am (UTC)(link)
Get Out made a quarter of a billion dollars box office and was nominated for several Oscars. Maybe you live under a rock?

Re: Stephen Colbert

(Anonymous) 2024-02-13 06:17 am (UTC)(link)
Nah, some of us just live in not the United States.

Re: Stephen Colbert

(Anonymous) 2024-02-13 08:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmm. I do not live in the USA but I've watched in cinema and also everyone were talking about it. But whatever no one can hear about everything

Re: Stephen Colbert

(Anonymous) 2024-02-13 07:01 am (UTC)(link)
Get Out grossed $176 million in the United States and Canada and $79.4 million in other territories for a worldwide gross of $255.5 million

Less than $80 million outside of North America. As one of the majority of the people on the planet who lived outside of North America in 2017 when the movie came out, I don’t feel particularly guilty for never having heard of it.

I do miss the days when at least some of FS pretended the US wasn’t the whole world :/

Re: Stephen Colbert

(Anonymous) 2024-02-13 09:42 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think theaters where I live even showed it. But I also don't go to the movies much and don't have a TV so I don't tend to get movie ads, so I rarely know what's showing unless it's one of the big inescapable franchises.

AYRT even though you probably won’t see this LOL

We had Cineworld Unlimited from 1st January, 2016 to 31st December, 2018 and saw almost everything that was released in that three year period. The only exceptions were some children’s films that the cinema restricted seat assignments to people with children.

I did try to look up historical showtimes but couldn’t find any for our cinema :/

Hey, you know how some people can't stop bitching about how anime is EVERYWHERE?

I manage to steer clear of it just fine.

People are exposed to different things while hanging out in different circles. It's not impossible that someone would not have heard of a movie that was popular somewhere.

Re: Stephen Colbert

(Anonymous) 2024-02-13 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe you're an ass? DA but I've never seen it and don't know the plot. Not everybody cares about movies.

Re: Stephen Colbert

(Anonymous) 2024-02-14 06:23 am (UTC)(link)
I live in America and I haven't seen it, nor do I know the first thing about the plot. Why? Because I'm not interested in horror movies.

Re: Stephen Colbert

(Anonymous) 2024-02-13 04:48 am (UTC)(link)
Fictional characters aren't the best thing to use as examples when you're making a point about how real people operate. Fictional characters do whatever the writers make them do whether or not it's realistic.

Called Kris Kristofferson a piece if leftist trash at a celebrity birthday party for Willie Nelson. There are just so many levels of fucked upness involved there. And then got offended when Kris squared off, and pushed back by asking exactly what Kieth had ever done for his country.
