They usually do explain it, even if it's something as simple as "The adults aren't the Chosen One with this destiny." Again, this is a problem you have because you're not the target demographic for YA. Teenagers don't want to read about adults solving problems, they want to read about people their age being more equipped than the ones who are supposed to be older and wiser.
