They usually do explain it, even if it's something as simple as "The adults aren't the Chosen One with this destiny." Again, this is a problem you have because you're not the target demographic for YA. Teenagers don't want to read about adults solving problems, they want to read about people their age being more equipped than the ones who are supposed to be older and wiser.

People in power are often quite happy to let things run the way they are. It doesn't surprise me that a lot of escapist fiction with high stakes has youth trying to fix things. It's the zeitgeist.

I thought it would be funny to write a YA academia parody from the POV of the teachers, were they're solving some sort of very localized problem while the kids are running around saving the universe from magical destruction or something.

I think if the actual adults were solving the crisis, it wouldn't be a YA novel. But really, I think there's a very real feeling for teenagers that adults *aren't* solving problems, from the mundane to extraordinary, and small to big. Climate change is a good analogue - why aren't adults handling that potential apocalypse?

Bi people are automatically attracted to ogres, robots, sparkledogs, 15 ft walking penises, 5 year olds, 85 year olds, Asmongold, teen edgelords, and everything with a pulse (or without one) that a player might decide to make themselves, regardless of what or how ridiculous it is, and regardless of any previously established relationship history.

Bi people thirst blindly for player fluids, like metagaming vampires. It is known.

Seriously though, "playersexual" means a specific thing, and it's not "bi," unless you believe the above.

Playersexuality is absolutely a thing. Bi/pan characters who happen to be into the player character are not the same as characters whose sexuality is defined only through the player character.

If a player who exclusively plays as X gender and is given zero evidence that their romance character of Y gender is interested in any other character, they're not wrong to assume or claim that said character is only into their gender -- or, indeed, only into their character specifically. Demisexual or other ace-aligned readings are just as valid as bisexual ones.

So...it's not something people use for their own ID, it's a term for video game design/mechanics? I'm confused. (I feel so old)

As mentioned before back in the initial secret thread, playersexual has it’s place depending on context. For some games it is absolutely an appropriate term to use but I’ve definitely seen outright biphobia in various fandoms too regarding the matter. Fans attacking other fans over whether or not a so-called playersexual charter is ‘actually’ straight or gay as far as the ‘canon’ is concerned is pretty much always bullshit and never worth the drama the topic inevitably brings.

I didn't know who they were when I read the first book (which I also loved), but I blocked them on YouTube the first time one of their videos found its way into my recs because the title and the face they were making in it smacked of Gen Z Tumblrite. (So did parts of the book, to be honest, but not nearly as blatantly.)
