It's a fandom specific term for someone who thinks certain ships or topics (ie. rape, incest, murder, etc) should not be allowed, for anyone, at all, ever.

Underage and incest, and especially underage incest, maybe ought be. I used to bounce writers from the comm I used to mod for that. And for pro nazi stuff too.

(Anonymous) 2024-02-18 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
No.

"Something something... You can excuse Rape but draw the line at incest?"

Incest is such a common fetish/fantasy in 80% of porn, and it's all fiction anyway.

Your comm, your rules.

But you don't get to harass people who post things you disagree with elsewhere.

And it's interesting how you threw "pronazi" in there. That's what people do when they're trying to push an agenda. Associate one thing with the other to make the thing you really disagree with unpalatable to the average joe who doesn't know what's going on, but at least understands that the other thing is bad.

Setting aside the obvious point that writing fanfic about the Winchester brothers getting it on harms no-one (and that 'underage' varies by country anyway), exploring these issues through fiction can be a form of catharsis and/or therapy for people who have experienced trauma related to those things in real life. Banning it has far more potential to harm real victims than protect fictional ones.

DA

There's also the fact that a lot of the stuff people find morally objectionable is also part of the actual canon of many books/TV shows/movies. So if people write fic for said books/TV shows/movies, are they just...not supposed to acknowledge it exists or something, even when it's a large part of the plot, if not the main plot? Can they read or watch the canon material but just not write fic about it? How far exactly is this "don't write about morally objectionable things" attitude supposed to go?

Like that recent Interview with the Vampire fanzine that wouldn't allow "proship" (the mods believing, as many mistaken do, that proship means "problematic ship") or "dark" content. So in other words, nothing that normally happens in canon.

(Anonymous) 2024-02-18 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Why not rape and murder? Do you think rape and murder are okay in real life, anon?

(Anonymous) 2024-02-18 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Nah. People can write whatever FICTION they want.

(Anonymous) 2024-02-18 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
You're getting flack for it but if it's your comm or space it's your rules, that's how the internet works. Others are welcome to make their own spaces for what they want.

(Anonymous) 2024-02-18 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
They can bounce whoever they want from their space. But they're getting flack for: Underage and incest, and especially underage incest, maybe ought be

In their own space? Sure. But they mentioned that AFTER this sentence, meaning they think underaged and incest should be banned, period.

(Anonymous) 2024-02-19 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
Right, but they start out indicating they think it probably shouldn't be allowed in general.

(Anonymous) 2024-02-19 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
Nice try, Godwin.

(Anonymous) 2024-02-19 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
So, no Game of Thrones, no Law & Order: SVU, no X-Files, no Xena, no Hercules, no Star Wars, no Indiana Jones, no Lost, no teen dramas (or almost any drama that has teens in it), no soap operas, etc.?

(Anonymous) 2024-02-19 06:06 am (UTC)(link)
Just wait. Soon rape and incest shipping will be the only things fandom will create that won't be overtaken by AI... Yay?
