I don’t care about their taste. Tom Cruise could be doing romcoms or fantasy epics instead of action and I’d still judge, because it’s mainly about Tom fucking Cruise in the year 2024. The part where the movies aren’t even good is mostly an aside.

I don’t think I’m a final arbiter of anything, I’m just judging you for being fannish about something Tom Cruise did. Because he’s an awful human being on so many levels.

I don't much care about Tom Cruise one way or the other, but it didn't seem like an aside to me when I was reading it, just that you were judging people for liking stuff because you didn't think it was good.

I swear to God, that second sentence, I thought you were talking about him doing his own stunts, not his Scientology and other stuff, which I will admit has given me a distaste for him. But it hasn't yet reached the level of can't-watch-anything-he's-in for me. Possibly because I haven't delved that deeply into it. So, sorry about that.

I honestly believe that a lot of people don't have any real idea of him outside him being a big movie star.

For me, and this happens to be the case for my spouse and parents, we’re aware he’s a Scientologist and pretty big in the organization but we also don’t particularly care. My spouse and I both have always had the sense that he was essentially brainwashed, plus he has handlers running interference. He’s basically in his own little world and there’s no reaching him.

Maybe AYRT is aware of particulars but I think most people are more like me and my family. I know enough that I’m not a huge fan, but it isn’t going to stop me from watching something he’s in if I think it might be entertaining.

The secret is very much about whether or not his movies are good though. You can't get annoyed at people for bringing that up.
