Original comment anon here - I honestly have only come across fans like this in kpop, but that's only online; I've unfortunately met swifties that act like this in real life too. I'm sure there are other musician fans who are just as unbearable out there, but I have never seen them. But I also only run in black metal and dungeon synth circles, so part of the time it's like "oh yeah this musician is an asshole, but I like their music" another part is like "oh shit he's a nazi, dropping him" (fuck you NSBM), and a third part is like "all we know is their stage name and music, but otherwise they seem chill". Hope that makes sense.

Do you have recs for good, complete warlord AU fics? I appreciate the original for introducing the trope to the fandom, but let's not kid ourselves about the writing....

(Anonymous) 2024-02-25 09:00 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, sounds fair. It's just that I have seen this fan behaviour with artists like Beyonce, Harry Styles and yep, especially K-Pop as well. But the genre and its target audience definitely makes a huge difference, I observe this mainly with Pop artists.

Maybe not romance, but it does often get interpreted as the wolf being a metaphor for a sexual predator and his eating of Red as metaphor of SA. I could see the appeal of genderflipping it in that context.

Re: Are there any fandoms where you only read AUs of?

(Anonymous) 2024-02-25 09:17 am (UTC)(link)
Same. The ONLY thing I want from this fandom is Jaime/Brienne, modern-day rom-com AUs.

(Anonymous) 2024-02-25 09:40 am (UTC)(link)
Technically, yes, except I don't really trust f on m SA getting the same treatment since it usually gets played for laughs/gets treated as hot.

(Anonymous) 2024-02-25 02:26 pm (UTC)(link)
You could possibly say that about child sexual abuse, but possessing child porn has not just recently been considered a horrible thing. It's been illegal for decades in the West.

Japan is absolutely different in this regard. The age of consent was 13 until last year, and possessing CSAM has only been illegal there since 2014, under a law that's weaker than the laws in Canada, the US, most of Europe, most of Latin America, etc. Do you think that if Watsuki lived in, say, London instead of Tokyo, and had been arrested there instead, he would have gotten off with just a fine and no jail time?

I'm not interested in genderswapped remakes, but I am interested in retelling from different povs.

Robin Hood from Maid Marion's perspective.

A superhero story from the parent or partner's side.

An inspirational football story that focuses on the cheer leaders.

Equal parts Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead and the Assistant.

Seeing him on tour in a week and SO EXCITED!!

(Anonymous) 2024-02-25 04:29 pm (UTC)(link)
The age of consent federally was 13, but each region had a much higher age of consent. It’s a myth that the actual age of consent is 13 in Japan.

(Anonymous) 2024-02-25 04:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Doesn't have to be outright SA. The main story is basically, naive ingenue attracts attention of dangerous predator who convinces her to ignore her family's advice and prioritize satisfying her own whims. As a consequence, her innocence is lost and her family suffers. Easy to genderbend off of that. I mean "vamp woman seduces virgin boy into dark side" is already a trope on it's own. All you need is to mix it into a story of your choice.

Re: Kind of inspired by #2 - creativity question

(Anonymous) 2024-02-25 06:59 pm (UTC)(link)
For me personally, there are stages that keep the creativity everflowing - even if I'm not always actively working on my creative works.

1) Allow creativity into your every day - I give a lot of thought into what I write to others, even texts; I doodle even though I'm not a good drawer; I cook as an avenue that connects to my creativity, when I wear makeup, style my clothing, etc. Expressions of my creativity aren't just in my writings.
2) Give yourself room to study/to learn - what are other creatives in your area of interest doing? what have you done in the past that worked for you? take your time figuring out what works for you and what doesn't
3) Have short term goals and long term goals - short term goals means you are getting things going; long term goals means you have a bigger goal to strive toward. full purpose is to have the short term goals help you improve and to help your long term goals seem attainable as time goes on. also, on an extremely personal level, this helps my anxieties so I don't hyperfocus on one project being the end all, be all project that tortures me and burns me out
4) writing wise - write A LOT; journal, write DMs/emails to a long distance friend, write prompts/original ideas/long fics/short fics/drawer fics, write about your day dreams, write about your real dreams. the only way to improve and to get started is to...start
Somewhere, anywhere

*when I was young - and even to this day, though to a lesser degree - I tried to imitate to tone/style of some of my favorite writers. it helped me learn how to get comfortable writing and as the years have gone by I think I've just more or less just learned how to pull out my own personal style in my writings which I picked up from so many writers - taking what works for me, dropping what doesn't.
I hope it makes sense?
I think it rings similarly to this video I watched about how creatives will try to imitate those that inspire/influence them but failing to recreate the influence is the POINT, because it is there that one finds their true creative voice. I couldn't find the video but it was really insightful in what inspiration means rather than plagiarizing or imitating things you like.

*allow your interests to be expansive; writing fiction stories one may think I lean on authors and novels as my "main" interests but I find so much fun in learning how other creatives work whether it be a writer who writes stories, a chef running a restaurant, a filmmaker shooting a film, or any other form of creativity or creation

Creativity is a process that works differently for everyone but in broad strokes I'd say, allow yourself to be creative as much as possible even in seemingly small and insignificant ways, allow a lot in and filter out what works for you and what doesn't. Creativity IMO has no real ends or limitations.

Also, there was a video essay on The Bear (I tried finding the video but I watch so much YT I couldn't find it) and they quoted Ira Glass about the creative process. About how when we create something it will be bad. But it's our taste that lets us know that what we're creating is bad but also what drives to want to create to begin with.

Keep creating!

Oh shit, I almost forgot the Cersie Lannister/Jon Snow smut pieces I devoured a couple years ago. There was a modern AU oneshot that I really enjoyed.

I also enjoyed the Jaime/Brienne AUs I read too!

AYRT was not asking why OP feels like they were invalidating Kristen Stewart's sexuality. They were pointing out that assuming she was marrying a man doesn't invalidate her sexuality, because bi women are also attracted to men.

Learn to fucking read, indeed.

I need AUs of the MCU just to have access to characters I care about again.

Same here.

You can't simultaneously acknowledge the existence of something and also declare that it's a myth.

But you're also not touching at all the bit that's really at issue, which is the treatment of child porn. Did he or did he not get off with a fine for a crime that elsewhere would put him in prison? Did his reputation remain intact or not for a crime that would end his career elsewhere? Are we just to ignore that for the sake of pretending All Countries Are Exactly the Same? Shall we declare that the rest of the world is as riddled with gun violence as the US, instead of acknowledging that the US, in that regard, is different? Shall we declare that all countries treat women and LGBT people are poorly as Saudi Arabia does so we don't have to acknowledge a difference there? Perhaps Norway is as authoritarian as China, and Chile has the same percentage of Muslim inhabitants as Iran, and Canada has many Roman Catholics as Italy, and North Korea is a social democracy known for its fine wine, and Spanish is the primary language of Singapore, and each of these nations are completely indistinguishable from one another.

I believe that.

I feel like she's more of a lesbian now.

What happened to Wordle?

(Anonymous) 2024-02-25 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
There are definitely takes on the story that treat it romantically, though the illustration chosen for the secret doesn't come across that way. The trope of an innocent being deceived by a monster is really common in romance, you can see it in paranormal romance stories a lot.

+1

Issues within a community's daily life in a fantasy setting are great for this type of story, and can be very fun to read about.

(Anonymous) 2024-02-25 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)
But this is an imaginary scenario, why do you imagine it going awful? It can be anything you want!

This is such a thoughtful and positive reply - thank you!
