I've seen plenty of wankers argue that Astarion is asexual but that's a first for Karlach. Sigh.

The idea of Astarion being asexual at least makes a little bit of sense. Karlach being ace is just out of left field, though.

Does it though upon completing his romanced route, both Spawn or Ascended? The conclusions of either route seem to often get glossed over in the fandom as far as Astarion's feelings on the matter of sex are concerned.

I hate the "Astarion is asexual" interpretation because it once again mixes up being traumatized due to (in his case centuries worth of) sexual abuse and having a skewed view of sex and attraction with being asexual and can we stop with that please. That's like saying a gay man who went through "conversion therapy" was never gay and is now straight.

Except you can be ace to begin with and also go through sexual trauma. And then get asked for the rest of your life if you're sure you're really ace and it's not just the trauma speaking.

I mean sure, I guess. But considering "there's something wrong with you/you must be damaged in some way" is a real popular thing people keep saying to asexuals id rather not have the whole "this character with sexual trauma is asexuel" all the damn time in media. Again, that's like only writing gay characters who "turned gay" after getting raped be a man.

There is something wrong with asexuals. It's not that big a deal; there's something wrong with, say, someone who has PCOS, too. It's technically a disorder. That doesn't mean people with it should be treated with any less respect and decency than people who don't have it.

So what do you think is wrong with gay people? What disorder do they have and can we fix it?

I think that's pretty clear. But who says we have to fix every disorder? If it's not meaningfully affecting the quality of a person's life, there's no real reason to.
