I think I would have been more amenable if JKR had just gone in one direction or the other with Hermione's character. If she'd continued to campaign for SPEW and either remained happily singly or married someone involved in wizarding politics/the rights of magical animals, I would have been okay with that. Or if she'd married Ron and come to accept that the wizarding world had many warts hiding under its shiny veneer - and that maybe the best thing to focus on was giving elves basic rights through protective laws instead of by trying to force them all into a freedom most of them didn't want and weren't ready for - I might have been able to see how a relationship with Ron, or any other pureblood wizard, for that matter, could work. It rubs me the wrong way that after making such a mockery of SPEW in the series JKR never bothered to flesh out Hermione's character in a way that would make her dedicating her entire professional life to that cause seem like a good decision.

But woah, LOL at me for thinking off-page character development is a huge WTF?! and that a mother of two would have no problem abolishing slavery. This is HP, after all. :p
