I haven't read the books in a long while, so I can't comment regarding elves. Not really sure what my stance on it would be if I read through again.

But ViktorHermione? I'm all over that darling ship. And, ah... I don't exactly dislike Ron, but the whole RonHermione thing never really worked for me. Oh well. XD

S.P.E.W only bothered me because it was clearly JK sitting quite comfortably on a soapbox that's been stood on to death over the years. "Slavery is bad!" "Yes, Jo. And the pope is Catholic."

Granted, some anvils need to be dropped, but Jo could've picked another, more with the times, issue to bring up through her characters.

Not sure I agree to much with the last bit of the secret, I've always liked Ron and Hermonie, myself.

I shipped R/Hr through all the books, and the way they got together in DH was a huge let down. The fact that Hermione finally took the first step I was fine with, but over the fact that Ron didn't want a houseelf to DIE? That's not showing him being some great compassionate Ghandi, that shows he's a person that cares enough about creatures below him not to have them die. (Like, say, a dog. Or your cat. Or whatever.) Not that Houseelves are like that-- but I can't help but think Ron doesn't think any better of them.

:( And now I wish that Viktor/Hermione or Harry/Hermione or ANYONE ELSE/Hermione had happened instead, so that she could have someone who actually cares about her enough to let her know she was wanted.

I still want R/Hr to be the wonderful pairing I imagined it when I was younger, but I just... can't. :(

I have no freaking idea how/why Hermione was ever interested in Ron. The only logical explanation is that she wanted to be with someone so weak and useless that she knew he could be easily controlled, and thus would never get in the way of her pursuing her REAL passions in life. But I think she's too good a person for that explanation. So it's really just mind-boggling.

Not a fan of the pairing with Viktor either, though. I think there are multiple better matches for her than either Viktor or Ron, however.

Er--I got to disagree. S.P.E.W showed kind another side of Hermione's character, that she may be smart, but comically stubborn as well and engaging in even the most ridiculous things with seemingly sound arguments. Well, that's what I interpreted of it ahaha--
Wouldn't call Ron so much of a loser either 8)

It bothered me how much JKR went out of her way to contradict her message by portraying most house elves as slavishly subservient, and I also thought Ron (and Harry to an extent) were real dickish about the whole thing.

I didn't like the house elves in general anyway, including Dobby.

I don't see anything wrong with fighting for house elf rights. Whether or not they really liked the position as slaves doesn't give anyone the right to mistreat them. Though I always felt Hermione went about it the wrong way and that said a lot to me about her character. She smart and her heart's in the right place, but she's still young and naïve in many ways.

As for Hr/R…. I always found them a strange, but amusing couple that really should have been fleshed out more. But we were really only allowed to know what Harry knew. And that’s something I felt was detrimental for the later books especially since she didn’t always follow her own rule. But that’s a rant for another day.

So yeah, Ron can be a complete jerk sometimes but Hermione harps on him just like his mom does. There plenty of times where they weren’t nice to each other. I can only assume that Hermione sees the potential in Ron to be an awesome person (just like Harry does) and that Ron is attracted to women he can fight with. Or something.
