(Anonymous) 2024-03-07 12:14 am (UTC)(link)At some point, when a franchise becomes that overwhelmingly ubiquitous, choosing not to watch a new installment IS NOT ENOUGH. You still like the concept, participate in fandom, write fics for a popular pairing, whatever, you're still connected to the fandom enough that Just Not Watching That Movie isn't enough to prevent fatigue. Everyone around you is still talking about it, meme-ing it, all the fans consuming your works are leaving comments wondering whether you'll include New Movie development, your communities and chats are all shifting to it. You have no choice, it is literally either embrace the new thing or leave the fandom wholesale. MCU, like Star Wars, is so fandom-culture-consuming that if you stop enjoying it, the only safe way to get on with life is to leave the fandom entirely. Which is valid, but also sucks if you really liked what fandom used to offer you before New Movie came along.
