To add, this doesn't seem too much different that sites like 'does the dog die?' to help people making informed choices about what they want to watch/read.

I think it’s different because one you can’t avoid and the other you can. I use doesthedogdie all the time, even for books, and I love it. But I don’t like trigger warnings for books. In movies and TV, content warnings are very general and the media tends to be about a cast of characters but books tend to be a much smaller cast so the warnings give away a lot more.

Having a book list its themes on doesdogthedie and providing a link to that site is miles apart from a list of every single potentially triggering or allegedly problematic thing in a work on the cover of a book.

Maybe, but I've only seen content warnings in books like the aforementioned Haunting Adeline where things like, "Removes eyeball and fucks the hole" are stuff I'd want to be warned for.

To me a page of content warnings is like a dedication page; easily skipped if I don't care.
