(Anonymous) 2024-03-07 02:27 am (UTC)(link)There's probably someone out there for whom the "cw: alcohol" attached to such a fic made perfect sense because they can't stand even a throwaway depiction of alcohol consumption like that, whereas your friend has to deal with it in another way.
The problem is that there's no real gradation to these warnings and, if there were, I suppose a lot of authors would just have to sit down and describe their entire fic in a long author's note so a reader knows every little detail before starting to read... And walks away without reading because why bother now they know everything that's about to happen?
Idk, I think this stuff is a double-edged sword in a lot of cases. Me, personally, I don't go near over-tagged stuff... But I know that others do the exact opposite. At the end of the day, I guess we'll never really have a system that manages to please everyone.
