Inspired by 4 - Casting changes you did not like!

And why?

I know Alice Krige is a better known and probably just better in general actress and also who they originally wanted. But Saskia Reeves is still my favorite Jessica, and I'm sad Children of Dune didn't bring her back.

For entirely shallow reasons, I prefer the original Daario on Game of Thrones. Ed Skrein just looked hot.

Julianne Moore in Hannibal. Just no. Also Mario Bello in Mummy 3. I don't know much about her as an actress. But all the chemistry Weitz had with Frazer was just gone.

You’re the first person I’ve ever seen say they preferred Ed Skrein’s Dario! He’s not my type but I love knowing that he’s someone’s fave <3

I don't care about the character either way. But I liked looking at Skrein's version. I just like long-haired men.

Agree Re: Mario Bello. Rachel Weisz probably couldn't have saved that movie, but it would've been a little better.

Don Cheadle as Rhodie. I normally love him and totally get the many reasons they needed to recast the role, he just didn’t have the same energy. When he disagreed with Tony, it didn’t feel like two equals, it felt like a subordinate sputtering pointlessly.

I think Terrance Howard is chaotic and arrogant and I think Don Cheadle is a good actor, but I thought Howard’s Rhodey was better and Cheadle never quite fit the role in the MCU.

I like most of the AOS Star Trek movies cast, but Zachary Quinto feels like a weak point to me. He isn’t bad as Spock, but he just isn’t as compelling as I think the character should be

Daphne Maxwell Reid played a pretty different Aunt Viv than Janet Hubert did in Fresh Prince of Bel Air. Reid’s Viv just seemed much more indistinct.

I didn’t really care for Michael Gambon as Dumbledore in Harry Potter, he didn’t have anywhere near the refinedness that Richard Harris did. It’s not like Harris was going to be easy to replace, but I can think of several actors off the top of my head that I think would have been better.

I agree about Quinto. He's a great actor, but he doesn't feel like he's really Spock. The other two of the main, I could see the characters. But with him, he really felt like an entirely new character, not like Spock.

I disagree about Gambon vs. Harris, though. Yes, Harris was more refined. But he didn't have the humor, the badassness, or the hint of darkness that Dumbledore does. Gambon wasn't perfect, but he captured more of the character I saw in the books.

Semi-agree with Zachary Quinto, though I think part of that was the weird focus the movies had on him such that I think any actor cast as Spock for those movies would have had similar issues. At times the first two movies felt like they would rather it be The Spock Show than an ensemble and I think that lead to some really bad choices by the writers for his characterization. The third movie seemed to be more balanced as an actual Star Trek movie, and Quinto seemed to be more Spock.

In a similar vein, Karl Urban literally channeled DeForest Kelley and no one can convince me otherwise.

I never liked Michael Gambon and felt that Richard Harris was much better suited as Dumbledore (back when I was into Hairy Plopper)

the second Becky in Roseanne was too old.

The second Laurie in That 70s Show. The original Laurie had amazing bitch energy. The second one was nowhere near as good.

Yeah, the original Laurie was great but the actress was deep in the throes of the addiction that eventually killed her, so I can see why they had to recast.

I know they HAD to recast Dufresne in Black Sails because the original actor got brain cancer, but I *hated* the new Dufresne. He just didn't give the right Nerdy Math Brain Energy the original did. And he was way too young.
