It's funny because I'm much more forgiving of silly visual effects in live action (as long as a film or show isn't wholly dependent on them... But then I wouldn't be watching something like that to begin with) than I am of animation that just doesn't click for me. I watched the Netflix She-Ra and I liked it enough, but I would be lying if I said that the animation quality wasn't grating in a lot of moments.

Idk, I guess I'm just more demanding of cartoons for some reason! I'm glad some people like what I don't like and vice-versa, though. There's a place for everyone.

da but I'm the same way and I feel like it's because silly visual effects are just part of a larger whole, whereas with animation the animation IS the larger whole and so you can't just shrug off bad animation and focus on the other parts when the animation is what the entire show is.

I think you're right, yeah. The amount of things that can be visually bothersome is different so our tolerance will also be different depending on whether it's some detail in a few scenes OR what a given piece of media is made of entirely...

Yeah, like... a wonky CGI monster that's in one three-minute scene in a live-action show, nbd. I can laugh at it and shrug it off because it's just a tiny piece of the show.

But I flat-out couldn't watch She-Ra because the animation was just so BAD to me.

And sometimes the bad monster is just good for joking around with fandom friends too. It might make you cringe, it might be the most ridiculous thing in the world that turns a serious scene into a funny one, but if it's not there in the next episode then... Whatever.

I almost gave up on She-Ra at times but I had the audio and the subtitles on in a language I was learning back then so there were moments when I'd focus more on them. That might have made things a bit easier now that I think of it, LOL.
