Hm.

I wouldn't consider myself a SW fan either, though I've seen most of the films. For context, I come from a household of huge movie watchers and some of my siblings are SW fans.

I think you've got it pretty spot on OP. Rogue One was OK as a film. It was better than what I was expecting. But at the same time...it's one of those films where I'm disappointed that the potential of the film is really impressive but the overall delivery is really lacking.

The characters seem to have really interesting backgrounds but they all just sort of...exist and do things to get the plot moving. And it's frustrating because I love almost every actor in their role. They did the most with what was given to them.

In terms of a story...it's...it's really messy. But what an ending!

Yeah, just a messy film that has some good stuff in it but overall it's a mess so at best I can call it decent.

A lot of people who love Rogue One have a lot of Star Wars nostalgia. I don't personally care for Rogue One AS a Star Wars fan, though I do love its prequel, Andor.

(Anonymous) 2024-03-16 10:09 pm (UTC)(link)
If it was purely a nostalgia thing, then they'd like the prequels and sequels, as well.

(Anonymous) 2024-03-16 09:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, not a whole lot of film-making or story telling to be found these days. It's all cash grab for the least amount of effort.

(Anonymous) 2024-03-16 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Sadly, I agree.

(Anonymous) 2024-03-16 10:11 pm (UTC)(link)
The single best way to show that you think your opinion is inconsequential is to submit it to the comm as a secret.

(Anonymous) 2024-03-16 10:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Someone doesn't understand how this comm works...

what

(Anonymous) 2024-03-16 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Is that honestly how you've been viewing the secrets here the whole time?

Re: what

(Anonymous) 2024-03-16 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
No, just in the case of OP, since when they've shared this opinion in the past (with the exact same wording, so it's almost definitely the same person), they've said it's inconsequential, and that they don't care to hear anyone else's opinion on the movie, since everyone else's opinions on it are inconsequential, as well.

Mostly I'm amused that OP thinks it's an inconsequential movie, and that all opinions of it, good and bad, are inconsequential, but that it's simultaneously worth making a secret about.

Also, I've typed "inconsequential" so many times that it's starting to look oddly

(Anonymous) 2024-03-16 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
It's OK, buddy. You don't have to like the secret, just have a little nap and maybe you'll feel better.

(Anonymous) 2024-03-17 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
... Were you under the impression that this community is only for super important fandom stuff?

(Anonymous) 2024-03-17 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
No, but I was under the general impression that someone who says, "my opinion is unimportant, and so is that of everyone else" would be unlikely to make a secret about the opinion they've said is unimportant, and the subject about which they've said no opinions matter.

(Anonymous) 2024-03-17 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
LOL... I make secrets about the fluffy, ridiculous cdramas I'm hooked on and how hot actors are. I wouldn't say my opinions about those cdramas/actors are important, but you know, making secrets is something fun to do.

(Anonymous) 2024-03-17 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
They're not "important," per se, but they matter to you in some sense, right? These are things that you like and engage with and have feelings about, which makes them a step above inconsequential. You aren't claiming to be in a state of total apathy when it comes to cdramas and hot actors.

(Anonymous) 2024-03-17 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
Sure. But I wouldn't say that the cdramas or hot actors are of serious consequence (because LOL come on), nor would I claim that my opinions on them should matter to anyone because that'd be pretty arrogant of me. So I guess they are arguably rather inconsequential. I make the secrets for fun, or just to express a random thought I had. Lots of people do that here?

Nonny, I think you're really stuck on this in a way that's a wee bit too much. Some people make really deep, important secrets about stuff that matters to them a whole lot. Some people don't. The community isn't only about the fandoms or opinions that are at the core of someone's existence, it's a lot more generalized and open than that.

This is a comm about fandom... all of it is unimportant. Or did you think we were solving world hunger here?

(Anonymous) 2024-03-17 03:47 am (UTC)(link)
There's a difference between "this is unimportant in the grand scheme of things" and "I don't care about this at all, and don't want to talk to anyone about it." When I'm sharing pictures of Rebecca Ferguson, I recognize that it's frivolous, but beneath the pictures I don't write, "I don't care about Rebecca Ferguson. My opinion of her is meaningless, and so are the opinions of everyone else."

I don't think you quite grasp what this community is for or how it's used. Are you new here?

(Anonymous) 2024-03-17 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
My impression has always been that this comm is for sharing opinions that people don't feel comfortable sharing in fandom, not for sharing opinions that someone thinks are inconsequential.

(Anonymous) 2024-03-17 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
Ah. You do have a mistaken impression about the community, then. Just look through the archives and see how many secrets are about trivial stuff. Like... most of them are? It's not always about controversial stuff, sometimes people just like sharing some fandom thoughts they had and maybe they don't have anyone else to share it with. I mean, somebody made a secret about cooking videos and avocado toast. And there was a secret about X-Files and Mulder's awesome hair.

It's not that deep, my friend.

(Anonymous) 2024-03-17 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
But, presumably, all of those people have thought that their opinion matters in some way, even if it's just to them. Mulder's awesome hair matters to that person.

The OP of this secret has said that their opinion is meaningless. It doesn't matter to them, and shouldn't matter to other people (and other people's opinions on the film don't matter to them, and shouldn't matter to others). If the subject and feeling on the subject don't matter at all, to anyone, even to them, then why...keep sharing it? Why go to the trouble of making a graphic about it, and submitting that graphic to a forum, if they feel that their opinion is completely inconsequential, even to themselves?

I’ve never heard anyone call it a masterpiece unless they were hyperbolic. But it was a damn enjoyable movie for many who watched it with a few scenes that really energized viewers. Sorry it didn’t land for you but we don’t all have to like the same things.

(Anonymous) 2024-03-17 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
I am not much of a Star Wars fan, but I like movies about World War II, and there were elements of Rogue One that reminded me of those.

I agree it wasn't a classic movie or anything but I still really liked it.

(Anonymous) 2024-03-17 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
I'm pretty sure I've seen this movie but I cannot remember a single thing about it. All the Star Wars movies (since Disney took over) kinda blend together in my head, though.
