Oh gosh, I'm so sorry...

Echoing what everyone else said, though. When you can, tell them. When one of my fandom friends died and we found out through one of his other friends, I was heartbroken... but I'm glad I was told, rather than just not seeing him anymore and not knowing what happened to him. I've had many fandom friends just disappear on me and I still wonder what happened to them.

I know it's probably hard, but I believe you should tell them sometime... Don't just disappear.
