One of the awkward things we had to deal with after my mother-in-law died unexpectedly was doing things like closing her LJ (which she never really posted anything to) and her work e-mail lists. There were people she'd never seen in RL but had had a professional relationship with for years whom we had to tell she was deceased. Fortunately, since it was work-related, she'd given her passwords to one of her co-workers when she went to the hospital, and so we could.

A year before that, a friendly acquaintance and close-friend-of-a-close-friend of ours died under circumstances that might have been either accident or suicide. We wouldn't have known until too late to attend the wake and get some closure if his brother hadn't posted it to his LJ.

If you have someone you can trust with such things, and I hope you do, please make sure that someone can at least make that final post for you. You don't need to let people know you're leaving, if you don't want to, but they at least deserve to know when you're gone.
