(Anonymous) 2024-03-24 02:19 am (UTC)(link)But I felt Yakuza 8 suffered by focusing on Kiryu so intently that it pushed Ichiban away in order to finish the former's story, and from what I hear, his story had BEEN finished in Yakuza 6 (though I do like that he did get a happy ending.) So as an outsider to the greater Yakuza franchise, I can kinda get that. Both games I mentioned are a huge time sink, and I have no clue if it's because they're JRPGs versus what they were previously.
Though I will say, having played Yakuza 7 and 8, I absolutely want to play the previous games in the series, so hey. I'm down for more, regardless of how long they take to beat.

(Anonymous) 2024-03-24 11:23 am (UTC)(link)AYRT is following the official numbering. The two Ichiban games are officially 7 and 8, though only the Japanese releases use the numbers in the title for those two. The Yagami games, Gaiden, the historical AUs and the zombie shooter are all spinoffs that do not count as mainline games.

(Anonymous) 2024-03-24 11:50 am (UTC)(link)That said I did unfortunately enjoy Kiryu's bits in 8, because yeah, the ending he got in 6 was not satisfying.
