Re: What is "fandom"?

I think it has to involve characters/people of some kind. If you can write fic about it, its fandom. If you can write meta about the world, its fandom. Etc.

If you just really like a thing, thats a hobby but its not a fandom.

I've never thought about it much honestly. It's an interesting thought exercise for sure.

So only fic can be the marker of a fandom? That is a supernarrow little definition you've cooked up there.

I don't think you read the whole reply.

Also, I'm not sure if you're aware but you are coming off super aggressive in your tone, which is really not conducive to an actual discussion. I have to figure either you are unaware of tone, or you're trolling and dont actually want to discuss the topic.

Oh I knew, that was intentional. You were being dumb, and I wanted you to know you were being dumb. Dummy.

Nah I'm just really bad at picking out trolls.

Would writing up analyses of sports games and/or teams be considered meta? Is someone who dives deep into player stats and brackets and fantasy leagues someone who just "really likes something," or are they engaging in a kind of fandom?

AYRT - For me? I don't think it would! Which is interesting because I can definitely see where you're coming from and why you could argue that, but it just doesn't work for me. I'll have to noodle on why that is but atm I can't really express it.

Hey! Don't bring that sports shit over here! Keep us safe from that crap, fantasy or otherwise!
