I don't see an obvious place to draw the line between media and hobby fandoms, so I don't have a problem with secrets related to either being submitted here.

It is genuinely really interesting to me that there are people that don't see the difference between a general hobby and fandom. The way I interact with hiking and hiking groups (to use the secret as an example) is totally different than the way I interact with fans and what I consider "fandom" spaces.

Not saying your pov is wrong, just interesting to me since its so different.

The way I interact with anime fandoms is very different from how I interact with sports fandoms, or even Star Trek fandom, so just interacting differently is not enough for me.

Sure there's a difference in how I interact in each fandom, but it all falls under an umbrella that hobby groups like hiking do not.

How is fandom not a hobby?

Fandom is a hobby, but not all hobbies are fandom.

ayrt

Yeah I don't know, there are differences between the types of hobby/community for sure, but I do feel they're similar. I think in this age of the internet, online hobby communities can resemble and be linked to media-based fandoms in ways that they weren't previously.

I enjoy the discussion and engagement the hobby secrets bring.
