And that's all well and good--for them. But they always try to force everyone who don't see media and fandom like that to conform to their way of thinking. Then accuse the people who refuse to go along of every manner of immorality they can think to conjure up, and it's getting really fracking annoying.

Exactly, the issue is that they project this as the "right way" to be and the goalposts of "being good" in their eyes constantly move.

And there's no way to agree to disagree. You either agree with them or you are a Bad Person who likes Bad Things, and thus an acceptable target for bullying.

I agree. I keep wondering when the tide is going to turn and these assholes will reap what they sow, but I don't see it happening yet, and maybe not at all.

A community that I've been hanging out in for almost a decade-and-a-half has become more and more infested with these types and it's awful. They treat every argument like a mortal battle that they have to win and they get incredibly mean and personally insulting in the process. I keep hoping their own bad behavior will catch up with them or they will be on the receiving end of what they dish out and maybe learn a thing or two, but it hasn't happened yet. And when someone finally snaps and insults them back, well that's just proof that that person is Wrong and losing and Bad. Somehow, every fight they get into is the other person's fault, even the ones that they go out of their way to start.

It's like they not only act like their shit doesn't stink; they've convinced themselves it actively can't stink. And that is really creepy and disturbing.

Sadly it's not just in media circles. I'm in a fandom for some actors, and I just can't get my head around the way some people act like they're personally guarding these actors against anything 'bad' whilst actively attacking other fandoms, and then laying the blame on the other fandoms if they fight back. Not to mention if you disagree with them or call them out for doing it, you're somehow the bad person.
