Fandom (in the sense we mean it here) is a distinctive social phenomenon and social group which first came into existence in a single epochal moment of creation when science fiction fandom came into existence in the 1930s. Fandom is defined by its relationship or similarity to science fiction fandom as it grew out of that initial moment of creation.
