A group of fans that make being fan of something a hobby in itself? At least that is what I would think of it.

My actual first thought was the side of a fan group who makes fanfic/art, Meta, shipping but... That's only because it's how I engage and fond out about fandon and end up separating in my brain, but it does sound wrong.
