I write for myself and for fun, I post my fic in case anyone else might also like what I enjoyed writing. I don't expect feedback, I certainly don't want obligated or forced feedback, I want people to comment/kudos because they actually liked it otherwise what's the point of either of those? Hollow praise isn't something I want. I have fics that only have one comment at all, but I love them because the person in question liked my fic enough to say something. That's what I want and like. Genuine love, not some empty transactional nightmare.

But that's kind of the point. It's not fishing for comments by anyone, it's hoping that people who did like something show it, which isn't always the case. We can't control what others do, nor should we want to, but it's healthy to wish people who happen to like the thing you wrote come and talk to you about it so both of you can have that one little moment of "this person gets it too!" even if it only lasts for that one second. It is about that genuine contact, which seems a bit lost nowadays because a lot of people are, precisely, treating a lot of this as transactional. It doesn't get worse than authors trying to sell fic... And people actually buying it.

I'm going to be honest I think the people who like my work do show it, I'm not sure why I'd think otherwise? The people who comment like it, the people who kudos like it, everyone else either simply didn't like it and clicked away or it didn't leave enough of an impression for them to feel either any way about it, which is their right. I'm not sure what other metric I should even be using to gauge genuine interest? Because that is clearly genuine interest from my end, it's there in fandom just because I'm not getting the entire world doesn't mean I'm getting nothing.

Why are you assuming that people who liked it aren't saying so? How do you know?
