Normally I don't try to gatekeep secret content because that's not something I feel I can do well i.e. telling who's trolling and who isn't. I generally don't have a problem making peoples' controversial secrets if they're sincerely held beliefs - that's one of the many reasons why it might be a secret, after all! That said, there were a few comment secrets that pushed the boundaries in the last "Secrets you don't want to make" thread, and I have a few things to say.

* I think the people who leave comments about Donald Trump and Republicans must surely know that they're highly unlikely to pass muster with Case, even if you claim that contemporary politics is a fandom.

* I understand there's been some recent disagreement about whether or not hobbies count as a fandom. There are definitely logical arguments for and against this, and I'm not interested in rehashing that here. I'm also not thrilled with the possibility that people are submitting fake secrets to prove a point about a hobby they don't sincerely regard as a fandom, even if they think it's funny to do so.

* I would hope that even people who like stirring the pot or trolling this community for fun would recognize that Case puts a lot of work into keeping this community running, and it would be sad to spoil it for others. Please don't do that.

* I also want to say that it takes time out of my schedule to make the secrets, so I would prefer that people take their ideological debates and is-this-fandom arguments to the General Comments instead of trying to start a fight via comment secrets.

Lastly - and this is a general rule - secrets do have a size limit, and there's a hard limit to my design skills. Wall o' texts don't really work well, and if your secret (regardless of its content) is super long, it's going to be difficult fitting all that text onto an image without teensy tiny font that's likely to be unreadable. I don't want to be a killjoy here and really, most comment secrets are no problem whatsoever! But please keep in mind that if your secret is very long, I might not be able to make it.

All very reasonable comments and requests. Sorry people are being extra troll-y, and thank you for making secrets and being a big part of keeping this community so active!

I remember I tried to tell you that some of those secrets were just trolls and not create them. I did not like the rude response and getting dogpiled.

If you were this rude about it, I can see why you were dogpiled.

If you are the person who repeatedly suggested that I cut off any and all secret comments posted after 9:49pm (or some other arbitrary time, I don't recall the exact time), I responded to you politely and explained that this did not seem fair to people who weren't able to check here on time for various legitimate scheduling reasons, including living in another time zone.

As for other troll secrets that were of a controversial nature, I also explained at the time why I didn't feel comfortable making that call on my own. It can be difficult to tell the difference between someone who's trolling vs. someone who simply has a rather niche and controversial viewpoint, and sometimes telling the difference requires a more in-depth familiarity with the fandom than I usually have.

Lastly, people can feel free to make suggestions to me on how I ought to handle things, but if it's my time and effort in question, then I get the final say. I hope I don't need to explain why.

You should just reserve the right not to make any secrets you don't want to.

I am one of anons who recommended to cut some of the secrets at arbitrary time (do not remember what time it was). And while I find your resolve not to judge secrets admirable I still stand by my opinion that sometimes you need to make judgment call. This community is infested by absolutely vile troll(s) and they can't even bother making their own secrets and just use your time.

Yes, their opinion is just as valid and should be spoken if they want. They were polite in their reply. Valid and important opinion does not mean they think SecretMaker /must/ do what they said, just that it is one opinion of many.

Yes. It is. Because I also make secrets even if it's for myself and I am here on this community. And
I am not pressuring secret maker, I respect their work either way. They keep this community going.
My knee-jerk reaction to call you a troll, because you are weirdly defensive and aggressive to my normal-ass comment. Tbf it is maybe cultural differences I don't know

Thanks so much for all your work in keeping the comm going! I don't always have a good secret when you put out the call but I still always appreciate seeing it go up and just knowing someone is out there wanting to put in that work for everyone.
