Why are people they feel sorry for having only girl or boy friends. Both are equally important. A lot of people have 0 friends in our online age so one friend that is opposite gender is fine.
If OP doesn't manage to make friends it's fine. This is not the only way to happiness. You all sound like people harping about kids to childfree women because kids are good, they had kids and you will jopefully find it one day.
Female friendship is not a Holly Cow.

It's like fs never read any academic works on slash. OP's take is right there.

I'm not sure FS reads academic works in general.

after all the hobby is fandom discourse, yeah, for sure.

The fact that I've read academic works on slash makes it clear that OP has not, or if they have, they cherry-picked exceptions from the works.

Of course tey cherry picked it and made a secret out of. The thing is it's always been in the academic works as a factor of slash popularity. What do you want, an essay with all the factors?

I never specified the gender of the friend they should find; it's pretty clear that if secret op thinks that true friendship can only exist between two men they don't have any friends at all.

We're a social species. Forming genuine connections with others is, in fact, essential to our overall mental health.

Because their take is sad and toxic and obviously whatever they have doesn't work
