I don't understand your meaning here, OP.

Crossovers with what, exactly? Specific media or other Karate Kid films or just...what?!

(Anonymous) 2024-03-31 08:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn't watch Cobra Kai so crossovers would be hard to attempt, pal.

(Anonymous) 2024-03-31 08:33 pm (UTC)(link)
What?

(Anonymous) 2024-03-31 09:03 pm (UTC)(link)
If a fandom were largely shipping fic, I *could* see an argument about a lack of imagination. And even then, it would depend on whether or not the shipfics all or mostly followed the same formula or not.

But... suggesting that the lack of *crossovers* means a lack of imagination? That seems weird to focus on. You do know there are more ways to write fic besides crossovers and shipping?

Crossovers have nothing to do with imagination. A lot of times, it's the opposite actually.

mte. you'd think it would take imagination to slam canons against each other but the results are surprisingly...not that.

+1. I love a well-done crossover or fusion but the vast majority are more "here are the cast of one fandom going through the exact plot of a second fandom".

Yeah I'm not anti-crossover but so many just don't hit the spot when it comes to the perfect fusion of the two properties.

There's a crossover between two of my fandoms showing up in my tags atm that I've skimmed and discovered is basically "Character A from Fandom A that the author wants to bang shows up in Fandom B and the Fandom B characters barely feature but were a vehicle for delivering Fandom A, and there's lots of sex with Character A"

I mean fair enough if that's what people are into but I just scroll past now after initially being interested.

As someone who stopped watching after season 3, I think Cobra Kai has way too many characters with too few character development. It doesn't make me have any desires for crossovers. The canon material is a mess, all I can rely on are ships, fix-it fics, and AUs. Crossovers would only appeal to me if it gave me a reason to invest in the crossover (like IDK MCU AU where Miguel, Sam, Robby, etc are approached by SHIELD but Johnny is a conspiracy theorist tinhatter while Daniel worked for Hank Pim and doesn't trust the gov either, etc etc. Like, it'd only work if the idea is well thought out)

Since when were crossovers a sign of imagination?

(Anonymous) 2024-03-31 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
If the shipping fics are all, you know, same-y, then that speaks to a lack of imagination in the fandom. Crossovers can be very creative, sure, but they can also be by-the-numbers boring, like anything else, so not a great metric to use.

(Anonymous) 2024-04-01 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
The more crossovers a fandom has, the shitter it is. Go back to ff.net if that's what you want

(Anonymous) 2024-04-01 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
Hostile.

(Anonymous) 2024-04-01 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
Not only mean but also false.

AYRT

Just giving back the same energy as the secret writer

(Anonymous) 2024-04-01 01:44 pm (UTC)(link)
No, you're not. Also, that's no excuse for being a dick yourself.

AYRT

I am, the secret said an entire fandom lacked imagination because they wrote more romance than crossovers. That's on its mean and wrong

So you're saying I should write that Mortal Kombat Cobra Kai crossover?

I'm kidding but honestly, while I enjoy the odd crossover I'm not sure what would make a good crossover for Cobra Kai
