God yes. I am in this bookclub my friend started (only in it to support her) and every book they choose has been dreadful real world setting stuff. Usually dealing with "modern struggles" or "raw emotion" or some such and god I hate it. I read to escape raw emotional modern struggles.

I couldn’t do it. I’d just have to tell my friend that the choices are impacting my mental health and that I’m better off sticking with optimistic fiction.

Oh man, no modern struggles and raw emotion for me, either. I get enough of that in real life. :(
