The thing that helped me when I was just getting started was picking a characters and looking into what there was currently, then finding back issues. From a character you'll find other characters you like and also figure out what writers you like. There will be storylines and authors you just don't vibe with and there's no pressure to continue with something you don't like.

Check out the library. You can find a lot on Hoopla and Libby. Also Marvel and DC have apps. Comic book shops are usually a great place two. Some suck, so don't be afraid to try different ones. I got lucky and have two really great ones near me.
