Good for you, anon! I was invested in your concert going more than ever at mine :D

Glad I wasn't on shift this weekend, this selection would never have gotten me through a whole shift.

Hot but evil, is still hot. Whether Malf Sr. is hot is an exercise for the viewer. Possibly exercise for their fingers, but exercise is exercise.

Just wanted to say that I was so happy for you that the concert went well, and hope you enjoy many more! (Green Day sounds awesome.)

Humans have always had a fascination with death, murder, and crime. Almost immediately after the invention of the printing press we have true crime publications. Before that, it was probably in ballads that don't exactly archive well. It's always been here.

I'm not sure I understand. How do you make cinema without dialogue? Is the claim that any movies with any dialogue at all are not cinema?

(Anonymous) 2024-04-07 07:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe it’s because I'm not a film buff, but I do not understand what you're getting at, apart from you being very cross. What does it mean for a filmmaker to not consider dialogue "cinema" enough? How is this apparent in someone's work?

Also, what makes such an opinion arguably ableist/sexist? Or is that just meant as an unrelated example of what people can mean when they say they hate something?

I have the same question. And also, how is not thinking dialogue is “cinema” (whatever that means), ableist?

They had folk ballads about various murders, printed broadsheets, public hangings were treated like festive occasions, people would try to get souvenirs of hangings and murders, there was merchandise made that featured a famous murder, plays were performed about it, etc. etc. Grim, but just shows you how far back this activity went. People just forget that it's not a new phenomenon on Youtube and in podcast form.

?

I forgot about public executions and "souvenirs"! My brain slots those as history and not true crime. But yes, people have literally torn the bodies of executed prisoners apart, not for any kind of revenge, but because everyone wanted keepsakes, collectibles, or even medicine. Before policing (and even for a while after) people would just walk into crime scenes and start taking things because they're from a crime scene. We're such a macabre bunch.
