Depends, and the graph is U shaped. I watched the movie once, and vaguely remember enjoying myself but don't actually care about it? I'll watch the sequel whenever, don't care how long it's been. Did I like it, enough to watch it a few times, maybe read some meta or a few fics? I'd probably want to watch the sequel fairly soon after, so I remember everything and can catch all the references. Did I love it and have made it my personality for the last five years? I'll watch the sequel as soon as it comes out how ever long it takes because I don't need to watch the original; I've watched it 50 times, read all the fic and meta and watched all the fmv and it's been playing behind my eyes for years and I have it memorized.
