they're still in fashion, but the new hotness is calling them AUs instead of crossovers, lolol

To be honest, AO3 isn't really built for crossovers.
Of course its optional and helps if you have a really specific crossover in mind when looking through the tags - but I think that the popularity of crossovers was helped by the layout of FFnet, back when you had a whole section dedicated to crossovers and if you looked up your current fandom you could see the list of other fandoms that had works written up for it.

Yeah I use to see this kind of art on western releases of Anime VHS tapes (mainly movies and OVAs - the one I can remember is the cover for the Tokyo Babylon OVA).

I miss livejournal communities back when I use to post my fanfics on there. Always got a response because creating fanworks for the community was actually fun.

Now strangers treat fanfic writers as soulless content providers, and lord help you if you dare to bitch about it here on FS.

Hahaha, thanks for the reminder OP. I played Suikoden on an emulator years after the physical copies went out of print, so I didn't see the box art until one of my fandom friends showed it to me. I thought it was fake until I googled it.

Inspired by 1# - was there ever a crossover in a fic that you liked? One that stood out in your memory? One that you wish actually existed?

Or, if you draw fan art; did you ever draw one of those group drawings of your favorite characters from different fandoms?

I remember reading a really good 10th Doctor and X-Men crossover fic once where Ten was yelling at them for messing with the timeline too much and had hung out with Wolverine in a bar later in the fic.
I could never find it again so I think it got deleted :(
