I miss livejournal communities back when I use to post my fanfics on there. Always got a response because creating fanworks for the community was actually fun.

Now strangers treat fanfic writers as soulless content providers, and lord help you if you dare to bitch about it here on FS.

So annoyed with the self righteous fic writers who talk about the torture of being treated like content creators.

DA

Ngl it's honestly weird to me. Proactively taking steps stand out in order to get attention and feedback is Actual Extra Work that everyone else who wants feedback has had to do forever. Expecting it and being entitled to it for free just for posting, sure is something.

SA ^I say this as a fic writer myself.

I don't see what's self-righteous about someone wanting to be acknowledged for the work they put in for free to keep their fandoms alive?? Having strangers treat something you put your soul into like you're a machine is disheartening, whether it's art, fic, or anything else in life.

Your second paragraph sounds like an angry troll, but I actually agree on the first. LJ just had a very close community feel and the talk around fic was way more active and fun. I mean there was wank, it wasn't perfect, but it overall felt like fandom was more a community or group activity.

Same, nonny. It's a weird, bad change in fandom culture.
