Yes to all this. I remember many years ago someone saying he took 20 quid out at the beginning of the week (!) and could see it going down, and that was how he controlled his spending. It's still highly effective, even though the amount is much higher now. I like being invisible as regards spending and I like knowing to the cent how much I've got left, all the time.

Also, I hate how unreliable online banking is. I've been chucked off my account for no reason enough times that I stress every time I log in, especially when I'm overseas and can't do much about it. I've told a bank I'm going to be overseas and had my spending blocked even so. When I got back I asked what if I needed to pay a hospital bill and they'd blocked my account? They said the answer was to get an account with another bank and get a card linked to that. I mean, that's great if you've got the money.

Nothing works and they don't bloody care. I blame Thatcher's generation.
