I mean, we're talking about the western fandom here, right? It's hardly surprising they don't harrass the original creators/crew/VAs all that much considering most of those aren't on easily accessible platforms for the western fandom and people from the western fandom don't speak Japanese for the most part. Doesn't mean it's a nice fandom, pretty sure they're very busy sending each other death threats over the "wrong" ships.

+1

It's odd that OP only counts harassment of the creative team as toxicity, when most toxicity in fandom is fans harassing other fans. Like, yes, it IS incredibly toxic to go after creators too, and a sign that the fandom has gone off the deep end, but most anime fandoms are not going to go after the creators because of the inaccessibility of those creators (either they're not on the social media Western fans use, fans can't find them, fans can't communicate with them, and/or the creators are seen as unresponsive/indifferent to Western fandom or culture and so going after them wouldn't do anything), not lack of desire, and that doesn't mean the fandom isn't toxic and horrible to be in. I've heard from the outside that MHA fandom is extremely wanky about ships and about liking certain characters. While occasionally you do get anime fandoms going after English VAs if that VA happens to be active in the fandom, for the most part "there's not even anyone sending death threats to the creators!" is an incredibly narrow way to assess the toxicity of a fandom, especially the Western fandom of a Japanese work.

Once you're a certain level of horrible, a language barrier won't stop you. Or at the very least you'll make it clear that you *would* be going after creators if it were possible.

SA for example, antis have been blocked by fanartists who don't speak English, because the antis were still telling them to kill themselves for drawing the wrong ships or posting images that needed no translation.

Yeah, it won't but the people not being on platform that are easily accessible for the western fandom helps. And a lot of Japanese creators are on their own platforms where western fans rarely go/don't know how to navigate. I've seen this shit happening with non-English fanartists as well though, and it's pretty annoying. There's a reason a lot of Japanese fanartists have left spaces like Twitter, and it's mainly harassment by western fans/not wanting to deal with their bullshit.
